CRITICAL ACCLAIMS (WORD)

Dimitri Illarionov I was born in 1979 in the Soviet Union. Both my parents at that time were involved with social and philosophical studies. No one of them or anybody else from my relatives was a professional musician. But I think my parents' connection to the world of ethics, logic and epistemology influenced me and the music I like to play. I think I was a happy kid - happy and interested in everything. I felt that the world was opened to me, and I was searching for my place in it.

I guess I found it when I was seven years old. It was the guitar. My father bought it for me. It was a small guitar for a small boy! I was really happy to start studying music, and I played my guitar seriously and deligently. I composed a lot for my small guitar, sometimes chasing my relatives to show a new piece I had written.

I appreciate very much my first teachers – Valery Emelyanov and Elena Bondarenko (successors of Alexander Ivanov-Kramskoy). They taught me to be an artist, and love the instrument I play. Since first days of playing guitar, I knew that I would be a professional musician and performer. How did I know that? I have no idea. As I said before, maybe it's because of my before-life... Anyway, my next teacher who left a profound impact on my professional career was Oleg Nazarenko, who studied music as a student of Alexander Ivanov-Kramskoy. Oleg Nazarenko was the one who gave me an inspiration to follow my fate.

I was growing up, learning more about music and there came a moment to fulfill what had been in my heart and mind. In 1993 at the age of 13, I entered the Academic Musical College of the Moscow State Conservatory "P. I. Tchaikovsky". I was fortunate that during those enjoyable four years in the college my professor was Natalia Dmitrieva. Thanks to her I learnt so much - she filled my life with beautiful music - my perception of music and fillings became more profound and intense. I also learnt from Natalia to always remain a musician which can be difficult during competitions but is very important for the professional career.

First Competitions and first winnings followed: In 1997 in Moscow I became the laureate of the International Competition "Classic Heritage" and the winner of "Guitar Moscow" Competition (1997).

Dimitri IllarionovIn 1997 I finished Academic College with honor and the next step of my Guitar life became acquaintance with the famous Russian guitarist professor Alexander Frauchi. The same year (1997) I entered his class at the Russian Gnesins’s Academy of Music. It was very important to me. This Academy is the best for classical guitar in Russia. From that year till now I have studied with A. Frauchi. For me he is like a jeweler! He is doing really great job. And I was so happy that I entered his class.

In 1999 I won the VI International Promotional Competition in memory to Kazimierz Sosinski "Guitar Talents' Review" (Gdansk, Poland) - "Grand Prix" and title "The Greatest Hope" of the "X Gdansk Meeting of Guitarists".

In 2000 I became the laureate of the VII International Classic Guitar Competition "Printemps de la guitare 2000" (Charleroi–Seneffe, Belgium); the laureate of the Second Prize of the III International Competition of Musical Personalities "Alexander Tansman" (Lodz, Poland – 2000); won the First Prize at the most prestigious Russian International Guitar Competition – "Guitar in Russia" (Voronezh).

In 2002 I became the laureate of the XI International Biannual Guitar Competition in Kutna Hora (Czech Republic – 2002).

These years were really interesting for me. I saw a lot of countries, met many people, and played a lot of solo concerts, with orchestras and in chamber ensembles. I took part in number of festivals in Russia (Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Kaluga, Saratov, Volgograd), Byelorussia (Gomel), and Poland (Gdansk, Lodz). In July 2002 I appeared with solo concert at the one of the world major guitar events - Nuertingen festival (Germany).

In 2002 I finished with honours Academy and continued my education in the post-graduate program at the same Academy in Moscow, again with professor Alexander Frauchi.

In October 2002 I won the guitar competition that for me is definitely the most prestigious guitar competition for today – The Twentieth International Guitar Foundation of America Solo Guitar Competition (GFA – Miami, Florida, USA).

I think that this is a main victory for Russian guitar. I am very happy not only for me, but also for my country. I think I did it thanks to many people not only in Russia who wanted me to win and who believed in my victory!

As a part of the prize I played a concert tour in North America, made the CD recording for NAXOS in their Laureate Series, and there is going to be the recording of the Mel Bay Publications Artist Series video.

I recorded some other CDs, one of them went into pre-short list of GRAMMY-2004 nominees. You can read more about my CDs on the page recordings and listen to some mp3 files there.

In August 2004 I took 1st Prize and Public Prize at the International Guitar Competition in Coria, Spain.

Besides playing concerts I am also teaching at the Russian Gnesins’s Academy of Music in Moscow.

You're very welcome to visit my concerts.
