Dimitri Illarionov is a brilliant classical guitarist. He is a multi-award winner of more than 20 international competitions in the U.S., Spain, Italy, Poland and other countries. He is winner of two of the most prestigious guitar competitions in the world: Guitar Foundation of America Competition (2002, Miami, USA) and Francisco Tárrega Guitar Competition (2008, Spain).
As well as performing numerous solo recitals, he is a frequent guest-soloist with symphony and chamber or-chestras all over the world. Dimitri is one of the rare guitarists who appears so frequently with orchestra and has played with such orchestras as I Solisti Veneti, San Antonio Symphony, Orchestra Camerata Ducale, Istan-bul State Symphony Orchestra, Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta de València, Philharmonie Baden-Baden, JugendZupfOrchester NRW etc.
His partners on stage are famous and recognized artists – conductors Claudio Scimone, Leo Brouwer, Vladimir Fedoseyev, Carlos Miguel Prieto, Ali Rahbari, Noam Aviel, Gum Nanse, Henrie Adams, Yaron Traub, flautist Patrick Gallois, Artis-Quartet, guitarists Roland Dyens, Artyom Dervoed, Dušan Bogdanović, Yamandu Costa, cellist Boris Andrianov, violinists Julian Rachlin, Janine Jansen, Gilles Apap, Leonard Schreiber, Sergey Dogadin, pianist Polina Osetinskaya, lute player Edin Karamazov.
He has given concerts in Europe, Asia, North and South America in some of the most prestigious halls in the world – Tonhalle Zürich, Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar, Bolshoi Theater in Moscow, Great Hall of Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, Seoul Art Center, Osaka Symphony Hall, Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles, Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, Bulgaria Concert Hall – Sofia Philharmonic.
Dimitri toured in Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Ukraine, Italy, Cyprus, Moldova, Netherlands, Turkey, Estonia, Lithuania, Belarus, Sweden, Poland, Bulgary, Russia, Slovenia, Serbia, Croatia, Georgia, Czech Republic, Armenia, Romania, U.S.A., Canada, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Paraguay, China, South Korea, and Japan.
He took part in many festivals including Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festspiele, Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Internationale Gitarren-Festival Iserlohn (Germany), Cello Biënnale Amsterdam, Internationaal Kamermuziek Festival Utrecht (Netherlands), Festival Pablo Casals de Prades, Wissembourg Festival, Rencontres Musicales des Graves, Les Grandes Heures de Saint-Emilion, Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise (France), Uppsala International Guitar Festival (Sweden), Festival der Orpheum Stiftung (Switzerland), Tongyeong International Music Festival, Jeju Music Isle Festival (South Korea), Guitar Foundation of America ICAC (USA).
Dimitri was born in Moldova, studied in Russia with the famous performer Alexander Frauchi and in Germany with Professor Andreas von Wangenheim (Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe). He has 20 years of professorship experience leading his own class in Gnessins’ Music Academy. Dimitri gives masterclasses all over the world and became a member of Juries of International Guitar Competitions: Guitar Foundation of America Competition, Stefano Strata – città di Pisa, European Classical Guitar Competition “Enrico Mercatali” (President of the Jury), Alexander Frauchi International Competition (Artistic Director), “Guitar Art” Belgrade International Competition.
Dimitri has recorded several CDs: solo for the Naxos and Daminus labels, with orchestra for Les Editions Doberman-Yppan. His “Classical Duo” CD (Delos Records) with Boris Andrianov was on the longlist of the prestigious 2004 Grammy Awards.
Composers have dedicated their works to Dimitri. Angelo Gilardino wrote for him the Concerto «Star of the Morning» (Homage to Nikolaj Roerich) for guitar, cello and orchestra; Nikita Koshkin dedicated to Dimitri his Concerto Grosso for Guitar and Orchestra. Atanas Ourkouzounov wrote for Dimitri a piece “Toccatchenitsa”, Konstantin Vassiliev – Hommage à Tom, Rossen Balkanski – “Ballade of the Angel”, Anna Drubich – “AirAlert” for Cello and Guitar.
Dimitri was the organizer and Artistic Director of numerous international guitar festivals and producer of several cross-genres projects: “Concierto de Hispanidad” for guitar and narrator, theatrical programs “Dances” and “It’s complicated” and a project dedicated to Erik Satie for guitar and ensemble/chamber orchestra/symphony orchestra with generative video art, entitled “Satie’s-Fiction”.
